YOU WERE ALWAYS TELLING ME TO REMEMBER
you were always telling me remember
Krista Houstoun
i forget everything
but you
i forget the way i was
and sometimes i forget
the way i wanted to be
but never your way
to open a heart and how
you told me
i could be
the light switch
in the dark.
sometimes i forget
the way he tore me down
or the way she said i was no one
and other things a person should
forget
but i never forget
you told me
i can
never love too much
and you’re warning
to trust people
when they show you who they are
believe them
when they don’t show up
and when they do
believe them too.
i forget why i started
all of this
and i forget all the time
how to end
and no matter how hard
i try so hard to pretend
the truth is
i forget everything
but you
and your way
to open a heart and how
you were always telling me remember
i could be
the light switch
in the dark.
